Why does birth time need correcting? ▾

Solar time, not clock time. In BaZi the hour pillar, and the day pillar near midnight, follow where the Sun actually was. Clock time is set for a whole time zone, so at your birthplace the Sun may cross the meridian earlier or later than clock noon. We use the longitude of your birthplace to correct for that, and can also add the equation of time (from −14 min in February to +16 min in November).

Daylight saving time is taken from your browser’s time zone database for the birth date, so summer-time births are converted to standard time automatically.

Whichever basis you pick, the “Pillars under each time basis” panel shows every combination side by side. If they differ, choose the one closest to the time on your birth certificate.

Everything is calculated in your browser. Your details are never sent to a server; if “Remember” is on they are kept only in this browser’s storage. Privacy policy ·

About Zi Wei Dou Shu

Zi Wei Dou Shu (紫微斗數), "Purple Star astrology", is a Chinese system that arranges fourteen major stars across twelve palaces, each palace standing for an area of life such as career, wealth, relationships or health.

How it is calculated

Your lunar birth date and the double hour of your birth set the Life palace and the "bureau" (one of five element patterns). The Zi Wei star is placed from the bureau and the lunar day; the other thirteen major stars follow in fixed patterns from Zi Wei and from its mirror star, Tian Fu. Fate Hall shows a simplified chart with the fourteen major stars, the twelve palaces and the bureau.
