Why does birth time need correcting? ▾

Solar time, not clock time. In BaZi the hour pillar, and the day pillar near midnight, follow where the Sun actually was. Clock time is set for a whole time zone, so at your birthplace the Sun may cross the meridian earlier or later than clock noon. We use the longitude of your birthplace to correct for that, and can also add the equation of time (from −14 min in February to +16 min in November).

Daylight saving time is taken from your browser’s time zone database for the birth date, so summer-time births are converted to standard time automatically.

Whichever basis you pick, the “Pillars under each time basis” panel shows every combination side by side. If they differ, choose the one closest to the time on your birth certificate.

Everything is calculated in your browser. Your details are never sent to a server; if “Remember” is on they are kept only in this browser’s storage. Privacy policy ·

About playing card reading

Cartomancy, fortune telling with an ordinary 52-card deck, has a long history in Europe. Each suit has its own theme — Hearts for love and feelings, Diamonds for money and work, Clubs for effort and growth, Spades for challenges — and the ranks add their own shades of meaning.

How it works

Fate Hall shuffles a standard deck and draws three cards for the past, the present and the future. Each card shows the meaning traditionally given to its suit and rank. You can also enter cards from a real deck.

Reading it well

Notice which suit dominates the spread: mostly Hearts points to relationships, mostly Spades to a situation that needs patience. As with all card readings, use it as a prompt for reflection.

The suits and tarot

The four suits of playing cards correspond to the four tarot suits: Hearts to Cups, Diamonds to Pentacles, Clubs to Wands and Spades to Swords. If you know one system, the other is easy to learn, and the tarot card meanings guide shows the parallel themes.
